SARAH CHALLENGER

Art Psychotherapist

Sarah is a register Art Psychotherapist, she is also a lecturer on the BA Creative and Therapeutic Arts course at the University of South Wales. The Sarah works using a psychodynamic model that examines and considers the unconscious expressions a client brings to the therapeutic space, in addition to their conscious words and actions. She facilitates the process of art making within the therapeutic space to create the opportunity for internal thoughts and feelings that can be difficult for a client to express to become externalised, allowing for these sensations and narratives to be explored and contained.

Sarah has a particular interest in working with families affected by substance and alcohol misuse, and the positive role Art Therapy and Arts in Health can play for this client group. Sarah is the regional co-ordinator for BAAT Cymru/Wales (British Association for Art Therapists) and the Treasurer and Digital communications Officer for WATAF (Welsh Arts Therapies Advisory Forum).
